About TMCR
Formed in
early 2005, the group was created to
start up a new Community Radio
station for the Thorne and Moorends
area.
The Group meets
regularly to act on behalf of the
local community in the running of the
project.
The radio station was
located at 5 Finkle Court, Thorne,
Doncaster. This is to the rear of the
Belmont Hotel. The initial aim was to
obtain guidance from the community,
finding out what they expect this
station to do when it took to the
air, persuading local businesses to
advertise and offer financial
support. Without this the station
could not perform properly as it
would not have reflected the wishes
of the community it serves.
A survey was carried out
in April 2005, which brought in
around 400 responses from all walks
of life. Based on this a format was
decided upon and TMCR played a
mixture of music from the war years
right up to current hits. Many people
have commented on this and said it
was good to hear a wider choice than
some stations play, with few tracks
repeated.
All members of the
station and committee are volunteers,
who have come forward to give help to
the project. The aim is to set up a
limited company, and then make this a
registered charity. Under the
guidelines laid out, the station
cannot operate to make a profit. It
can receive no more than 50% of it's
income from sponsorship or
advertising, the rest has to come
from other sources. This may be
external funding, our own fund
raising or donations.
Initially, the station
operated as a RSL (Restricted Station
License) with a 28 day on-air run
between July 16th and August 12th
2005. This was carefully timed to
wrap around the Thorne Festival
weekend on July 30th and 31st. The
station carried local information,
local news, local contributions and
was hosted by local people. It is not
allowed to be political, religiously
orientated, or show bias towards
other groups or individuals.
Unlike the regular local
radio stations, TMCR provided a
higher speech content. This was by
way of interviews with local people
and organisations, features on events
happening in the area, information
about roadworks that may affect
traffic and many other items of
interest. There was a blend of music
to suit all, from Classical to the
Clash, the Beatles to Busted. Our
programming contained several
specialist areas that have been asked
for by the people who answered our
survey. Whilst they agreed that we
should play some current chart hits,
we should also play classical and
other styles.
It's all about the
community, they run the station, they
provide much of the content and we
hope that everyone will tune in when
we return to the airwaves.
COMPLAINTS
Should any member of the
public have a complaint about our
station we ask that they initially
contact the station manager at the
studio. Many complaints can be dealt
with amicably.
If you are experiencing
interference then OfCom may be able
to help. They are the body who govern
all use of radio frequencies and who
have provided our license to operate.
All transmission equipment used by
our station is to the required
standards and has been installed by
competent personnel.
Complaints about
material broadcast by our station are
also dealt with by OfCom. TMCR's
management team will co-operate with
OfCom at all stages to resolve any
issues concerning our station.
Please contact TMCR if
you require details of how to get in
touch with OfCom, or visit their
website at www.ofcom.org.uk. We have an
information pack that is available to
anyone who believes they are
receiving interference from our
transmitter and we can either give
this to visitors, or post it if a
name and address is left.
