The long term plans are
to train local people, so they can do
their own shows. More about that
below. For the initial 28 day RSL we
needed to utilise people who have
been involved in radio before, and
were able to use the studio without
too much assistance. Several members
of the group have been on the air
already, many as part of the 1997-98
RSL's that operated in central
Doncaster, which provided the licence
that Trax FM won.
We are making
arrangements for local people to be
trained as presenters, techincal
operators, interviewers and technical
engineers. These are the people who
will be the mainstay of the long term
station, providing local programming
for local people.
But, it's not just a
case of going in and playing your own
favourite tracks. All presenters are
being taught structured programming
skills, which will allow them to
provide a wide range of music and
features.
Nobody on this station
is paid for their work, it is all
voluntary. We are not looking for the
next Chris Evans, this is community
radio. Whilst everyone is entitled to
their say, it is not possible to
train hundreds of people and we may
have to turn some people down if we
don't feel they are going to be
suitable.
Like any radio station,
there are rules and regulations. We
cannot carry items that are (for
example) political, religious,
racist, abusive or factually
incorrect. There should be no
swearing or sexual references, a
breach of the regulations could
result in a massive fine, and closure
of the station.
